This year’s American Music Awards was held in Los Angeles, CA at the Nokia Theater and most of our favorite Nautie girls were on hand for the festivities. Now, I’d be lying if I told you that I watched these award shows for the performances. Sorry, but I can catch a concert if I really wanted to see my favorite artists perform. Yep, I’m nestled on the couch with my wine, snacks and girlfriends on hand just to catch what my fave celebs are wearing. From jaw dropping to “hot mess” the fashion extravaganza was on! Trust me, I was more than ready to see who would take the crown for Best Dressed, Worst Dressed, and of course…the Most Bizarre.
Used to her crazy antics at this point, I’m sure all of us were prepared to see Miley in some sort of bizarre, attention seeking get-up. However, to our pleasant surprise, Miley appeared to be channeling a sophisticated young lady. Miley rocked a white Versus Versace suit, shirt-less, with black pointed toe pumps. It’s like Miley is determined to show us that she has skin, but I’m actually liking the bare chest look she has going on with her all-white suit. It totally complimented her sassy short blonde hair do’. This was definitely a good look for her.
Lady Gaga never fails to disappoint us with her entrances. This year she appeared on the red carpet on top of a Trojan white horse…a giant mechanical one at that. Gaga was actually a little toned down from her usual costumes, and I liked it. She was definitely serving “goddess” in this lavender Versace gown.
Rihanna usually brings her A-game to the red carpet and we’re always looking forward to seeing what she’s going to wear next. However, this year was a fail for me. From the “Doobie” hairstyle, to the bralette top, and sheer skirt thingie…I’m just not feeling any of it. Always one to embrace her unique sense of fashion, the “Styled To Rock” creator did give us a glimpse of her cute new hand tattoo and a whole lot to talk about with this look….next!
Kendall & Kylie Jenner
As these two get older, they continue to blossom into beautiful young ladies. Looking great as always, Kendall wore a white form-fitting Keepsake dress, accompanied by a Dylanlex statement piece necklace. Which I totally wanted to snatch for my own collection. While, little sister Kylie flaunted her stuff in a pair of black velvet trousers, white crop top, and sheer black pointed toe booties. I’m telling you these girls make being a fashionable Kardashian look easy!
Yes, Gawd…My girl is back! Looking fabulous and confident as ever, Christina Aguilera decided to show off her new skinny-minny figure in a gorgeous white cut-out gown, showing just a hint of skin. The sexy split at the side exposed just enough leg needed to take this ‘hot mom’ to a whole new level. Yep..she won with this look!
After observing all of the ladies for the evening, I had to hand the crown for “Best Dressed” to the soon-to-be Mrs. Sean Anderson…Naya Rivera! The Glee Star looked so sexy and elegant in this black, jaw-dropping Michael Kors gown. The gown complimented her shape, with its peek-a-boo cutout front and long train following behind. Naya definitely wears Michael Kors well…and her exposed cleavage was tastefully done. With the gold cuffs at her wrists and cascading curls to her shoulders, she reminded me of a stunning Egyptian queen! Loved it all!
I believe Ciara is the runner-up for Best Dressed for the evening. With a body like hers, Cici can wear anything and make it look good. On the red carpet, our girl rocked a form fitting J. Mendel gown with small geometric detailing. Pretty much putting those preggers rumors to rest. Anywho, we love this look on her. It’s simple, yet sexy…especially with her jewelry and hair kept to a minimum.
I’m not too sure about what she was going for with this look, but Katy Perry walked the carpet in a strapless, polka dot and floral Oscar de la Renta gown. Some may see this as a perfect way for her to show her girly personality, but we have to disagree. The cross of patterns between polka dot and flowers was giving us”Kentucky Derby” not AMA’s. We’re just not feeling this outfit choice. No Bueno Katy.
J. Hud has been killing the red carpets lately, but this look kind of through us for a loop. The former-American Idol contestant could have done a little better for the AMA’s. I just don’t think that the orange asymmetrical Dior dress with pink in-seam, comes off as flattering. I’m still loving the new short do’ and the makeup but the overall look is not one of our fave’s.
As beautiful as she is, this dress seems to take away from Zoe’s elegance. The actress opted for a black and white, satin Roland Mouret gown, with a serious clash of patterns and fabrics. Not the worst, but it wasn’t our favorite look of the evening.
Lil’ Mama wowed us all with her recent portrayal of Left-Eye in the VH1 TV special, CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story. So, I was really hoping that she would wow us yet again with her look at the AMA’s, but…I was not impressed at all. Unfortunately, I wasn’t really feeling the black ruffled-detailed gown, with green insets or the matching green hair do. The nude lip and smoky eye looks great…but, that’s about it.
Actress Phoebe Price, walked down the red carpet in a black and beige, sheer meshed, high-low dress. Not too sure of what was going through her head, it’s easy to say that her look was over-the-top, and she certainly takes the crown as Most Bizarre. However, I do applaud Price for her confidence in strutting this unique piece down the red carpet.
We absolutely love TLC’s Chili and T-Boz, but we’re a little disappointed in their fashion choices. We were expecting something more sophisticated and edgy from the popular duo. However, they just didn’t nail it with this look. Their stylist did great job with the whole retro feel of the look, but not so good with flattery. These women are legendary..musical icons to a generation and their attire should reflect that.
Actress Emma Roberts graced the red carpet in a long, ill-fitting shiny, metallic gown and she was definitely giving me “Statue of Liberty” with this look. From her untamed hair, to the purple shoes and clutch..it was just wrong. Nothing about this look complimented Emma’s youth or elegance. The baggy silhouette swallowed her petite frame, making her the Worst Dressed of the night. Honey, this is the AMA’s…you know you have to show up and show out!
This year’s American Music Awards red carpet wasn’t as breath-taking as the past, but the girls did turn a few heads and there were some memorable looks to be had so I’m not too disappointed. Thankfully, there’s always next year!
Who do you think wore it best? Worst? Most Bizarre? Were any of the looks Nautie Approved or Not?
