She Cooks: 5 Ways to Show Him That “You’re The One!”

If you’re on social media, you know there’s no shortage of women posting with hashtags such as #andshecooks, #wifeymaterial, #homemade, #dinnerforhim, #getitfrommymomma and much more. It’s usually accompanied by a picture of delicious looking food that leaves you wondering “how can I make that?” As a personal pet peeve–I absolutely hate the #wifeymaterial hashtag, but that’s a discussion for another day. Anyway, since the holidays are fast approaching, this post is for the ladies that aren’t necessarily Rachel Ray in the kitchen, but still want to have their boo think she’s just that. Here are a few tips that I’ve learned over the years that have taken my dishes from bland to “baby, you DID that!”

Tip 1: Use fresh herbs, spices and vegetables. While it’s definitely more time consuming to chop and wash your veggies or herbs, it gives food a more authentic, flavorful and homemade taste. Actually chopping your onions or garlic tastes better than the powdered forms right?

2. Think of what you want to make at least 24hrs in advance. I love letting my meats marinate overnight. Whether it’s steak, chicken or some form of beef, letting your ingredients fuse together over time creates a juicer and more tender piece of meat.

3. Purchase a simple side dish that cooks quickly. Ever tried the packaged pasta sides that come in different flavors? Basically all you have to do is add some water and stir occasionally. It takes about 10 minutes to cook. Once the pasta is done, add some olive oil in a pan and cook  it with a vegetable like spinach and either pre-cooked chicken or shrimp. Voila! Instant meal!

4. Make chicken! Baked chicken, stir-fry chicken, or fried chicken, the options are limitless! One quick chicken meal is just cooking some chicken breasts in olive oil. Add a few side dishes like rice and a vegetable and you’re done. Don’t forget to add a garnish to the chicken like basil or a sliced lemon wedge.

5. When all else fails, don’t be afraid to venture into seafood. Salmon or tilapia are two of my favorite types of fish that cook very quickly. I try to make fairly health dishes, so I mainly stick with olive oil. Again, put some seasoning, olive oil and fish of your choice into a pan and cook until done. Add a veggie of your choice. Pow!

Bonus Tip: If you’re short on time or just lazy, order in. Just make sure to throw away the plastic or styrofoam before your man arrives!
