Even though fans seemed to be really excited over the news that Zendaya Coleman would be playing R&B songstress Aaliyah in the upcoming Lifetime biopic, it looks like Aaliyah’s family is far from pleased.
According to TMZ, Aaliyah’s uncle and former manager Barry Hankerson is willing to do anything in his power to pull the plug on “Aaliyah: Princess Of R&B.” Per uncle Barry, no one has reached out to Aaliyah’s family about the project, the family won’t allow any of Aaliyah’s music to be used for the project, and they’ve already hired a lawyer to stop the biopic from being made.
The biopic which is based on the bestselling biography “Aaliyah: More Than A Woman,” chronicles the superstar’s life from her humble beginnings in the music industry, to her successful career and her untimely passing.
Although, the family isn’t feeling this whole Made-For-TV-Movie, they are open to the possibility of bringing Aaliyah’s story to the big screen. However, since Lifetime pulled off “CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story” for one of the world’s most popular singing groups, I gather that they feel more than confident that they could represent for Aaliyah as well.
I personally would love to see Zendaya do her thing in this project. She’s a very talented singer, dancer and actress, and I think that she’d definitely bring the heat with this project. Hopefully, all parties will be able to come to an agreement on this.
Do you think the family should give the okay on the “Aaliyah: Princess Of R&B” Lifetime biopic?
